The ongoing tariff war between the Indian telecom operators doesn’t seem to have an immediate end. Bharti Airtel, the leading telecom service provider in the country has introduced a new prepaid data plan that counters Reliance Jio’s aggressive tariff plans.
Airtel recently refreshed its prepaid plans as part of its Prepaid Promise scheme with Rs 448 pack offering 1GB data per day for 70 days. Now it has added a new Rs 93 special recharge plan that competes with Jio’s Rs 98 plan. With recharge of Rs 93, Airtel users will get unlimited local and STD calls including roaming and 1GB data for 10 days. The pack also offers 100 SMS per day.
Airtel notes that the 1GB data pack is applicable on any device and will even work on those using 3G smartphone. The data pack will work on 4G or 3G or 2G depending upon the smartphone used by the subscriber.
The plan competes with Jio’s Rs 98 tariff plan, which also offers unlimited local and STD calls including roaming, 140 SMS and unlimited high speed data with a fair usage policy of 2.1GB. Jio’s tariff plan also comes with higher validity of 14 days.
In terms of comparison, Airtel seems to have an upper hand by offering more SMS but Jio is unmatched as far as data package is concerned. Since its launch, Jio has managed that it will offer 20 percent more data benefit than incumbents but it has seen stiff resistance from the likes of Airtel, Vodafone, Idea and even BSNL.
Subscribing to Jio’s Rs 98 plan gives free subscription to Jio TV, Jio Cinema, Jio Music while Airtel gives access to Airtel TV and Wynk Music for music streaming. These plans are aimed at users looking for a tariff plan with short validity and minimum 1GB data. For those looking for long validity, Reliance Jio offers 1GB data per day for 70 days with Rs 399 recharge while Airtel offers similar benefit for Rs 448.
